Interview with Dr Mariam Almahdi the Deputy Leader of the National Umma Party

“Extremely worried about the health of arrested Sudan opposition figures”, says Dr Mariam Almahdi

Sudanese security forces have arrested two opposition figures who have joined an alliance uniting Sudanese opposition groups against the government. The National Intelligence and Security Services on Saturday evening arrested Farouk Abu Issa, head of the opposition National Consensus Forces and Amin Makki Madani of the Alliance of the Sudanese Civil Society Organisations. Issa and Madani had signed the Sudan Call document in Addis Ababa on Wednesday, an agreement which aims to unite opposition groups against Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party. This latest agreement follows the Paris Declaration which brought together armed rebel groups and the opposition Umma party. RFI’s Daniel Finnan speaks to Mariam al-Mahdi, the deputy leader of the Umma party.
